What I hope to accomplish in this writing class can be summed up fairly simply. I would like to become a better writer on the whole as well as learning how to write specifically for the various media outlets. Through practice and criticism, hopefully my goals will be met.
“My Home Town”
Since the day that my parents brought me home from Northside Hospital way back in 1982, I have lived in a neighborhood in Atlanta, GA just within the northeastern boundaries of the perimeter. Needless to say that after spending the majority of my 22 years in Atlanta, writing about my home town evokes fond memories from a variety of events ranging from learning to ride a bike and eating cold popsicles on a warm summer day to learning to drive a car.
I feel very fortunate having grown up where I did, the people are friendly, the weather is nice albeit unpredictable, and the air smells of a scent not found anywhere else but ‘home.’ Located just within the perimeter enables my family and friends to be only a short drive from the many attractions that Atlanta has to offer people for entertainment. I always had many friends close by to play with in the streets or the cul de sac or wherever else my parents deemed inappropriate. A great, diminutive neighborhood with lots of lush vegetation, it offers something for everyone and I consider it an ideal place to have grown up.
There is plenty to do in and around Atlanta, GA. Growing up I was a big fan of movies and during the beginning of my high school carreer, a new theater was built just down the road off the I-85 Access road. This became a frequent stop for my friends and I , checking this site for the movie listing and times :
http://www.digitalcity.com/atlanta/movies/venue.adp?sbid=103625076 . Even today it's a frequent stop when I'm home to visit. Yet since we've grown older and now are of legal drinkin age, a movie is often followed by a trip down to the one and only Buckhead (
http://www.buckhead.org/bars/) . Since college kids obviously adhere to strict morals when it comes to underage drinking, we only just now begin to venture there. Occasionally when we would like a good snack after a night out on the town and we are of the right mind to have someone drive a car, we cruise on over to one of the best pizza restaurants in town; Fellini's. (

This Update to the Power Hour has been brought to you by the letter 'A' , because that is what I would like to make in the class.
